We’ve got five ideas for you for a laid-back, sunny Saturday and Sunday in Tokyo.

The biggest thing this weekend is happening between 11 and 6pm on Sunday. Harajuku and Shibuya will be hosting Tokyo Rainbow Parade, an annual event that’s all about celebrating diversity and raising awareness. There’ll be floats, music and festivities as a couple of thousand (an estimate based on previous years) LGBTI folk and supporters participate in a 3km walk around the city.

Other brightly coloured scenes will be taking place at Nezu Shrine, where the Azalea Festival continues, as well as Kameido Tenjin, where you can still enjoy the sights and scents of the Wisteria Festival.

Experience the Traditional Art of Kintsugi
Looking for a totally different experience? Then why not try a kintsugi class in Tokyo? Kintsugi is the revered Japanese art of repairing old pottery. In this one-hour kintsugi workshop, you'll learn the delicate art of gold repair, and create your own unique souvenir to take home. You'll even dress in samue, the outfit traditionally worn by craftsmen. ...

If you’re keen to get out of the city, you might want to check out the Shonan Festival at Southern Beach Chigasaki in Kanagawa. You can expect food, music and all sorts of random stuff, including a beach sandal flinging contest.

And for the crafty, creative cheapo, the Japan Hobby Show at Big Sight could be a good way to spend 1 000 yen. Think fashion, food, design and much more.

The next Cheapo Weekend will be a Golden Week Holiday special – look out for it!
