Reservations for climbing Mt. Fuji are officially opening for the 2025 season. If you’re planning to hike the famous Yoshida Trail — the most popular route — you can book a spot online.
Advance bookings for the Yoshida Trail are possible from 1 p.m. on April 24 (Japan Standard Time). It costs ¥4,000 per hiker, and payment can be made online. A digital ticket will then be issued.
You can make a reservation via the official Mt. Fuji climbing website, as well as the ticketing platform Asoview (in Japanese).
The Mt. Fuji reservation system includes a date-change feature, allowing climbers to reschedule their tickets based on weather conditions or personal plans — depending on availability.
Note: The other Fuji trails also carry a ¥4,000 fee in 2025, and pre-registration is required to climb them. This opens on May 9.
The reservation system was first rolled out in 2024 by Yamanashi Prefecture, under whose governance Mt. Fuji partially falls (it’s a shared arrangement with Shizuoka Prefecture). In recent years, concerns have been voiced about unsafe climbing practices and rule violations, and the loss in tourism value that could result.
In response, the Yamanashi and Shizuoka governments have been exploring sustainable tourism practices for Mt. Fuji. As part of this initiative, they are trying to disperse climbing traffic and strengthen safety measures.
