Bunkyo Plum Blossom Festival
Another plum blossom festival with extracurriculars like shamisen-playing, traditional dance, tea, other Japanese cultural events, and, best of all, nighttime illuminations.

Eat your way around Japan at this food festival specializing in local (furusato) dishes. Entry is free and it’s right by Yoyogi Park, so you can take your fare and have yourself a picnic too.
“The Best Flea Market” (Yurakucho)
Think second-hand kimonos, ceramics and other small trinkets. This is a good place to find stylish stuff and unusual souvenirs from Japan.
Mt. Takao Hiwatari Festival
If you’ve ever wanted to try walking over hot coals, now is your chance. This fiery festival comes around but once a year as a way to purify and cleanse—as well as to promote world peace, health and prosperity. No need to sign up, just show up and walk the walk! The students of Tama Univeristy host the annual Washi Candle Garden at Tokyo Midtown in remembrance of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Each paper lantern has a message of support to the people of the affected area. The event is part of the school’s We Love Japan Project. Check out the extensive permanent collection at the Museum of Western Art for free. Works includes paintings from the late medieval period through to the 20th century and modern French sculpture. Artists include Ruebens, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Pollock and many more. Robert Taira Wilson is regular on the Tokyo music circuit. This British acoustic guitar player will celebrate his third EP release by gracing the stage of 7th Floor. Tokyo is often described as busy, crowded and futuristic, but there are also traditional shrines and gardens where you can swap the hustle and bustle of the city for peace and quiet. You'll need more than a day — there are LOTS of things to try! Upcoming names include Baekhyun, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iron Maiden — and more.
