Minato Mirai Bon Dance Festival

Those in/near Yokohama should swing by Rinko Park in Minato Mirai on Friday or Saturday evening for bon odori dancing, street food, a beer garden and beautiful views of the illuminated Yokohama Bay Bridge.

The Tsurumi River Summer Festival

A small fireworks show of 1,000 illuminations. Takes place over Tsurumi River in Yokohama—so this event can easily be paired with a visit to the Minato Mirai Bon Dance Festival (above).

Shimokitazawa Awa Odori Festival

Awa Odori is a parade-like festival where choreographed groups perform traditional Japanese dances and songs throughout the streets. The Shimokitazawa neighbourhood is holding its own version of this summertime classic.

Somewhere in Your Dream

A new market and music event (also taking place in Shimokitazawa). You can peruse the market for antiques, arts and crafts, fair trade items, vintage clothing and more. Kids can join a beat-boxing workshop for ¥500. There are also live music and DJ performances.

Sanja Latin Fest

A two-day Latin celebration with live performances, amazing costumes and a samba parade on the Sunday.

Food and Entertainment Fight! Festival

A 10-day festival with food, music and even professional wrestling displays at Symbol Promenade Park.
