SWEET AS – New Zealand Music Night (Feb 9): NZ DJs will be playing heaps of kiwi favorites, from the classic hits to more recent tracks and everything in between at Shibuya’s Ruby Room. Try New Zealand wine for 500 yen a glass, sausages for 200 yen each, various NZ snacks and a free vodka shot for the first to arrive! Tickets are ¥1,000 each and include two drinks.
National Museum of Western Art – Free Admission Day (Feb 10): This Saturday, check out the extensive permanent collection at the Museum of Western Art in Ueno Park for free! Works includes paintings from the late medieval period through to the 20th century and modern French sculpture. Artists include Ruebens, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Pollock and many more.
World Valentine Festival (Feb 10-11): The people who organize the events in Yoyogi Park have come up with an intriguing theme for Valentine’s Day. What exactly is a World Valentine Festival? Why not pop along with your sweetie and find out? Expect the availability of food, drink, music and some kind of flea market, as per usual; rain or shine
Tokaigi Game Party (Feb 10-11): Gaming nerds rejoice – the Tokaigi Game Party is back for its 4th year at Makuhari Messe. The event allows you to try out new video games, spectate gaming tournaments, buy gaming merch (there’s a lot of gaming stuff, ok), and be entertained by a slew of musical performances and a whole lot more.
Plum blossom festivals: Cherry blossoms will soon overshadow any other blooming thing, so take this month to enjoy the just-as-beautiful plum trees blossoming now across Tokyo. Many locations commemorate the blossoms with festivals chock full of food, drink and entertainment. For example on Sun, Feb 11, there will be a horseback archery demonstration against a plum blossom backdrop at the Odawara Plum Festival.
Winter illuminations (final weekend): If you haven’t gotten around to it yet, this is one of the last weekends to catch winter illuminations around Tokyo. Take a stroll in the swanky Marunouchi area, visit the impressive Caretta Shiodome or check out the sweets-themed Tokyo Dome Winter Illumination.
