Tokyo events for Monday, June 8, to Sunday, June 14, 2026.
This week sees one of Tokyo’s “Big Three” traditional festivals, as well as Tsukiji’s annual Lion Dance Matsuri. On top of that, Bunkyō puts on a hydrangea party, and stationery fiends head to Ariake to pick up some of the latest pieces from around the country.
Sannō Festival
The Sannō Festival is one of the Three Great Festivals of Edo, along with Kanda Matsuri and Fukagawa Matsuri. While it’s smaller now than it was during the Edo period, there are plenty of things to see and do at this biennial event, including daily performances at Hie Shrine.
Tsukiji Lion Dance Festival
The roads will be closed, and the whole town of Tsukiji will take to the streets to celebrate the annual Tsukiji Lion Dance Festival at Namiyoke Shrine. This year’s edition serves as the first commemorative event leading up to the shrine’s 370th anniversary in 2028.
Kamakura Gosho Shrine Annual Festival
The Gosho Shrine Annual Festival is a three-day event that commemorates the guardian shrine of the Zaimokuza area in Kamakura. A small, portable shrine will be paraded through the streets, followed by floats and residents, and dipped into the sea at Zaimokuza Beach.
Yokohama Night Flowers
Yokohama Night Flowers is a fireworks festival that runs from summer through winter. This month’s show will set off from Shinko Pier at 7:30 p.m. on June 13 and last for around five minutes. A great viewing spot is Yamashita Park.
Bunkyō Hydrangea Festival
3,000 hydrangeas will be in bloom around Hakusan Shrine and nearby Hakusan Park. Entry is free, and there will be a lot of festivities, including a concert, mikoshi portable shrine procession, stalls every weekend, free toothbrushes — really — and sketching meetups.
Bungu Joshi Stationery Expo
While there’s a lot to love at stores like Loft and Hands, small makers from across the country produce beautiful stationery. This expo is a chance to discover their products and support them directly.
Candlelight Concert: A Collection of Great Love Songs
A string quartet will take you on a journey through romantic songs and ballads from famous films to ageless classics and contemporary pop. Take in the dreamy performances surrounded by candles.
Downtown Highball Festival
This is a tachinomi (standing bar) festival, but there will be plenty of space to eat and drink. Expect rows of booths and stalls filled with drinks and izakaya food as well as stage performances from taiko drummers, dance groups, and DJs.
Tokyo River Clean-Up
Tokyo River Friends organizes regular litter-picking events on the banks of the Arakawa and Edogawa rivers. As well as helping the environment, participants can enjoy a guided eco-walk experience along the riverside. No reservation required — just show up at the appointed meeting spot.
Kick for a Cause: Charity Karate Class
A third-dan karate instructor with over 20 years of experience will run you through the basics of karate movements, techniques, and principles. On top of that, you’ll have the chance to meet new people and support a meaningful cause in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
