Marunouchi Illumination 2024

4:00pm – 11:00pm
Free

Each year from late autumn until mid-February, the trees along the Marunouchi area’s Nakadori Avenue are strewn with around 1.2 million fairy lights to give the area an extra special winter feel.

While you’re in the area, check out the White KITTE and Hibiya Magic Time Illumination light displays.

What is there to see and do?

In addition to lighting up the naked branches, there are illuminated sculptures on the sidewalks, an ice-skating rink, a miniature merry-go-round (seats only), local mascot Maru-kun, a piano, and stalls selling sausages, mulled wine, and treats.

Marunouchi Bright Christmas 2023 (Disney Dreams & Wishes)

Until December 25, Disney will sprinkle some of their fairy dust on the Marunouchi area. There will be several displays: a monument and light show based on the new animated movie Wish in the Marunouchi Building, a Fantasia hat on the third floor of the Shin-Marunouchi Building, a Beauty and the Beast display in Marunouchi Brick Square, and a towering Christmas tree inspired by the movie Frozen in Marunouchi Oazo.

For the hungry, there will also be limited-edition Disney-inspired menus at local restaurants in the area.

How to get there

As soon as you come out of the main Tokyo Station Building, you’ll be facing where you need to go, but if you get lost, Nakadori Street stretches from the Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan shopping mall in front of Yurakucho Station and ends at Otemachi Nakadori. The whole stretch is around 1.2 km.

For 2023, Gyoko-Dori Avenue, which runs from the Imperial Palace to Tokyo Station will be lit up from November 28 to December 25.

  • Marunouchi's mascot Maru-kun gives a wave.
