October is here, and yes, we’d be remiss to not point out that spooky season is officially upon us. As such, this week has its fair share of ghoulish gatherings like Kagurazaka’s Supernatural Cat Festival and Tachikawa’s Yōkai Bon Dance. If gigs and exhibitions are more your speed, there’s plenty of those too, as well as fall fireworks, food and drink festivals, and traditional community celebrations.

Performing Arts Festival: Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo
Dig deep into Japanese performing arts — including dance and music theater — at this international performing arts festival in Tokyo.
Korea Tokyo Soul Connection – Soul delivery x HALLEY Live Show
Korean neo-soul band Soul Delivery and Tokyo R&B artists Halley join forces for a co-headline show at Moon Romantic in Aoyama. This will be the third time Soul Delivery has come to Japan, and as artists gaining huge traction in Asia’s jazz, R&B, and indie scenes, this will be one to check out.

Miura Night Market
Outside of a festival context, Tokyo isn’t known for having a strong late-night street food culture compared to cities like Taipei or Bangkok. The Miura Night Market offers a taste of something different, and it’s easily accessible from central Tokyo.
Japanese Tea and Live Koto Music in Shimokitazawa
A rare opportunity to witness a live koto performance in an intimate setting. This performance will take place in Shimokitazawa’s Tsukimasa café, a local tea shop that has been operating since 1978.

Kōnosu Fireworks Festival
Catch spectacular fireworks in Kōnosu City. Every autumn, 20,000 fireworks are fired into the night sky in Saitama’s Kōnosu City.
Shinagawa Fall Fireworks Festival
Shinagawa’s canals get their moment in the spotlight with 8,000 fireworks. The fireworks show typically lasts around 30 minutes.
Meguro Citizens Festival
Happening at the same time as the Meguro Sanma (saury fish) Matsuri, Meguro Citizens Festival is a fun-filled day out for all the family. Along with those main events, there will be games for children (one year there was a giant cardboard maze) and wadaiko drum performances.
Ark Hills Music Week
Ark Hills Music Week celebrates the power of music with Ark Hills Music Week. There will be events held all around Minato City, including Suntory Hall and Ark Hills Karajan Square.
Yanaka Festival
The Yanaka Festival is a quaint community festival that takes place at venues throughout the neighborhood of Yanaka.
Shitamachi Matsuri
Nezu and Sendagi’s backstreets burst with flea markets, food stalls, music, and parades. Shop for crafts and snacks, join a stamp rally, or try old-fashioned festival games like ring toss and target shooting.
Fukuro Festival (Yosakoi)
The Fukuro Festival began in 1968 as a promotional event for four local shopping districts on the west side of Ikebukuro Station. Since then, it has become one of the largest events in the area, and the Yosakaoi event is a crowd favorite.
Bake Neko (Supernatural Cat) Festival
Taking place on the main street of Kagurazaka, this is a Halloween parade with a difference — you must be dressed as a cat.
The Railway Festival
Timed to coincide with National Railway Day, this festival features booths set up by the main rail companies. Thomas the Tank Engine — perennial favourite of pre-school children everywhere — will be there, too.
Edogawa Citizens Festival
Meet the official festival character Happy-chan and get down with the fine citizens of Tokyo’s closest ward to Chiba.
Oeshiki Festival at Ikegami Honmonji Temple
Oeshiki is a Buddhist festival commemorating the anniversary of the death of Nichiren — a revered Buddhist teacher who lived during the Kamakura period. Although celebrated throughout Japan, the festival held at Ikegami Honmonji Temple is the most notable as it is the place where Nichiren died.
Kyūshū Fair
Kyūshū can feel a long way off from Tokyo, but for one long weekend, the island comes right to Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park. The fair also features a reconstruction support corner, spotlighting disaster-affected areas and rebuilding efforts.
Zozofes Music Festival
Zozofes is a brand new music festival hosted by popular online fashion retailer Zozotown. There will be live music, fashion tie-ins, and an abundance of exclusive merch.
Jiyūgaoka Megami Matsuri
Also known as the Goddess Festival, this annual event held in the area around Jiyūgaoka Station was established in 1973. There are wine and food stands with fall specialities, and vendors galore to go along with the wide variety of musical performances.
Kappabashi Kitchenware Festival
Officially the “Kappabashi Dōgu Matsuri” (Kappabashi Tool Festival), this festival is a showcase of Tokyo’s premier neighborhood for both amateur and professional kitchen supplies — from knives, to porcelain to realistic plastic food models.
Tachikawa Yōkai Bon Odori
Yōkai Bon Odori opens a doorway into the spirit world — and you’re invited to dance your way through. Yōkai are mischievous, sometimes frightening supernatural beings that come from Japanese folklore.
Meat vs. Seafood Festival
The Meat vs. Seafood Festival will be packed with stalls serving everything from smoky beef tongue skewers and turkey legs to sizzling tuna steaks, grilled turban shells, and charred squid.
Meet Your Art Festival
One of Tokyo’s biggest art events takes over the Tennozu Isle area of Shinagawa. Regularly featuring works from over 100 artists, the event also features a second-hand clothing and crafts market, as well as delicious food and live performances.
