What else? Fireworks will go off over the sea in Kamakura, fireflies will float around Setagaya, and lanterns will soar in Kanagawa.

Kamakura Fireworks Festival

Head to a beach near Tokyo for fireworks in the summer. The Kamakura Fireworks Festival takes place at Yuigahama and Zaimokuza beaches on the coast of Kamakura City and will see around 2,500 fireworks shot into the sky.

Mita Carnival

The Mita Carnival is known for its food and drink stalls, parades, dancing, and iconic view of Tokyo Tower in the background. There is also live entertainment on the main stage.

Handmade in Japan Festival Summer 2025

Step into Japan’s largest creators’ festival, Handmade in Japan Fes. Goods will be both traditional and contemporary (often a blend of the two) — from tatami products to stylish phone cases.

Setagaya Firefly Festival

The Setagaya Firefly Festival and White Egret Flower Market is a family-friendly summer tradition held on Boroichi Street. The most popular event is the chance to see fireflies while walking through a dark, enclosed dome.

Nakano Okinawa Chanpuru Festival 2025

The Nakano Chanpuru Festival showcases the best of Okinawan food, culture, and traditions. There will be plenty of festival trimmings to keep you busy. Everything from stalls selling traditional Okinawan food and drink to handicraft workshops.

Brazil Festival 2025

Festival Brasil — also known as Brazilian Day Tokyo — pulls in an impressive crowd. Once again, it will be held in Yoyogi Park’s Events Square and will feature all things Brazilian. Look forward to food, dancing, and vibrant performances.

Jiyugaoka Bon Odori Dance Festival

See the beauty of traditional Japanese dance at this massive Bon Odori festival in Jiyugaoka. If you want to join in the dance, you can learn some of the key steps via the practice videos on the official website. 

Kawasaki Daishi Fūrin-Ichi

It requires a little adventure beyond Tokyo to get to this annual festival of Japanese wind chimes (fūrin). You can also bring old bells to their recycling corner and enjoy the festival food offerings.

Kumagaya Uchiwa Fan Festival

This traditional event, also known as the Kumagaya Summer Festival, is a celebration of culture and community and features dynamic parades, colorful street performances, and iconic uchiwa fans. There will be beautifully decorated floats paraded through the town, accompanied by traditional music and dance performances.

Kanagawa Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival

Feast on festival food, watch performances, and launch glowing lanterns into the night sky. This event in Kawasaki, easily accessible from central Tokyo, offers a blend of traditional star-themed decorations, wish-writing, and a festive atmosphere.
