Tokyo events for Monday, April 3 to Sunday, April 9, 2023.

It’s finally come. April 9 means the end of many of Tokyo’s big cherry blossom festivals. But fear not, there are still a bunch of events to come this April.

Due to the warm weather the late-blooming cherry blossoms might not be so late this year, and one festival, Ichiyo Cherry Blossom Festival, kicks off the season with a procession from the past.

Ichiyo Cherry Blossom Festival

This festival attracts big crowds every year, due to late-blooming cherry blossoms and an oiran (courtesan) parade. There are also lots of food stands and refreshment booths. So if you haven’t gone flower-viewing already, this would be a great time to do that.

Yoyogi Park Wanwan Carnival

The Wanwan Carnival is a festival of everything doggy. Dog clothes, dog grooming, professional dog photographers, performing dogs, dog quizzes, dog dancing, famous dogs, obedience, agility, and speed eating contests are all part of the event.

Ukima Park Tulip Illumination

You don’t need to travel outside of Tokyo to grab a little slice of the Netherlands. You can see rows upon rows of tulips with a windmill backdrop right in Ukima Park. There will be more than 20,000 tulips, as well as cherry blossoms, lit up and from April 8–16, the primroses will also be illuminated.

Sakura Genesis 2023

Sakura Genesis is a New Japan Pro-Wrestling event that takes place at Ryōgoku Kokugikan (the sumo stadium) each year. The 9th match of the day is an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match and sees Kazuchika Okada face SANADA.

Cherry Blossom Night Garden at Shinjuku Gyoen

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is beautiful during the day, but have you ever wanted to check it out after hours? You’ll be given your own lantern to take with you around the park as you explore both real and digital cherry blossoms. One of the highlighted cherry tree varieties is Fukurokuju, which will be lit up from early April.

Last-chance cherry blossom festivals

And here are tHe last of the cherry blossom festivals. Most are planned to end on April 9.
