Look back on the origins of Studio Ghibli and Animage with this exhibition in Ginza. This is a great option if you can’t make it to the Ghibli Theme Park or Museum as it is right in the center of Tokyo.
About Animage
Animage will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2023. It is an anime and entertainment magazine that played a pivotal role in the birth of Studio Ghibli; Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind was serialized in Animage from 1982 to 1994.
What is there to see and do?
There will be image boards and concept art of Studio Ghibli’s animations Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Along with the art, you can take photos with statues and models that look like they were plucked out of the movie. Other photo spots include everyone’s favorite cat bus!
If you’re already heading to the gift shop, you’ll be pleased to find a number of original products to buy such as cups, plates, and framed prints.
Last but not least, there will also be a collaboration menu at MG Cafe on the same floor. They’ll be offering dishes such as a cafe mocha floating on a sky and a cat bus curry.
