Catch over 70 local volunteers parade a golden dragon on their shoulders at the Asakusa Golden Dragon Dance.
If you miss the procession in October, try to see the one in March.
What happens?
The Golden Dragon Dance is a carefully designed and choreographed parade. In it, a lovingly designed golden dragon is carried through the streets surrounding Sensōji Temple. It’ll be accompanied by streams of children and geisha as it makes its way along the route.
Schedule
The Golden Dragon Dance is held twice each year, on March 18 and October 18.
The parade will travel through the area three times, usually at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:45 p.m. The 11 a.m. parade will begin from the Kaminarimon Gate, while the other two will start at the Denpoin Temple nearby. Both, however, will finish up at the main Sensōji Temple courtyard, for a final dazzling performance.
