This is a chance to watch yabusame, the impressive Japanese martial art of horse-mounted archery (it’s quite difficult to hit a target from a moving horse) in Asakusa.
Schedule 2024
There will be two types of events, one from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. where archers will compete against each other to hit a deer target (standing up), and the yabusame event from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tickets
The 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.event is free to view, however, you need to purchase tickets to view the yabusame event from 1 p.m up close. You can get tickets from here, they cost ¥3,000.
There are a few free areas the see the event from a distance, namely the Kototoi Bridge and on the riverside beside the event space (although they may limit people here).
How to get there
The standing archer event will take place in Sumida Park’s Sanyabori Square and the yabusame will take place in Sumida Park between Kototoi Bridge and Tobu Railway Bridge.
