As Tokyo Tower turns off its lights, more than 1000 candles will be lit for this poignant annual event.
What happens?
Taking place at Zōjōji Temple on the summer and winter solstice each year, this event calls for all lights to be turned off — including Tokyo Tower — from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Candles of all shapes (incl. vegetables), colors, and sizes will be lit just before. This is done with thoughts of protecting the earth and joining together amidst current worldwide issues.
Schedule
Before the main event, there will be kitchen cars and stage performances from 1 p.m. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the candles are lit.
For 2025, they are asking for other buildings to join in and turn off their lights from June 16 to 22, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.Add to Calendar
