What to expect

Do you spend hours on Duolingo but crumble when stepping up to the cash register? This basic Japanese class will simulate real-world conversation in a Japanese dagashiya retro sweets store at WeLearn 80s Cafe.

Dagashi are small, inexpensive snacks and candies that generations of Japanese children grew up with, famous for their nostalgic charm, playful packaging, and unusual flavors.

In this class, you’ll play both customer and shop owner as you practice useful everyday Japanese phrases in a fun and relaxed setting. The event will run from midday until 6 p.m., and you’re welcome to pop in at any time.

Entry

Class participation is ¥500 plus one drink (¥500), paid at the door by cash, credit card, PayPay, or transit cards like Pasmo, Suica, or ICOCA.

Members enjoy free or discounted access to all events and lessons, no café charge, a 7-day free trial, and the option to cancel at any time. You can sign up via the official website.

Members or free-trial subscribers can join this event for just the one-drink fee, which starts at ¥200.

Please note that if you are not a subscription member, an additional drink fee (¥500) will apply if you stay at the café before or after the event. Members or free-trial subscribers will be asked to pay an additional drink fee of ¥200¥500 for pre-event café use only. (More details here).
