Experience Japanese calligraphy firsthand with the help of expert instructors.
What to expect
These beginner workshops will introduce you to the world of calligraphy from the absolute basics to creating your very own piece of art.
Starting with a brief introduction to the tools — your brush, ink, and washi paper — you’ll progress on to getting the feel for brush strokes. Once you’re feeling more confident, choose a kanji character that resonates with you or write your own name in Japanese characters.
With the help of your instructor, by the end of your class, you will have skillfully brushed your chosen work onto an uchiwa traditional Japanese fan to take home with you, as well as an English beginner’s guide to calligraphy for future practice.
To celebrate, enjoy authentic Japanese tea and traditional sweets to relax and appreciate your new creation.
Each experience lasts 2.5 hours. A small-group workshop (max. six participants)
