Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary Exhibition

Ride a Killer Panther, battle monsters in VR, hug a giant King Slime, and explore 40 years of Dragon Quest history at this limited-time Dragon Quest exhibition in Harajuku.

What to expect

Dragon Quest is a long-running Japanese fantasy role-playing game series created by Yuji Horii and published by Square Enix. The Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary Exhibition is all about reliving the magic.

The headline attraction, Dragon Quest VR RIDE, uses Meta Quest 3 headsets, motion seats, wind effects, and 360-degree visuals to send you racing across open grasslands on a Killer Panther. Along the way, you will encounter familiar monsters and enter real-time battle scenes. (One VR RIDE experience is included with each admission ticket.)

There will be other interactive displays: hug a two-meter King Slime, open a treasure chest with a surprise inside, and visit a monster research lab where you can feel textures inspired by creatures such as Slime and Moomon. A face-tracking “Mirror of Truth” transforms you into a monster.

In addition, displays will showcase the history of the main Dragon Quest games from Dragon Quest I through XI. Displays include development commentary from Yuji Horii, artwork associated with Akira Toriyama, music materials connected to Kōichi Sugiyama, and full-scale recreations of legendary weapons including Roto’s Sword, the Heavenly Sword, and the improved Hero’s Sword.

Expect plenty of limited-edition exhibition goods, including plush toys, clothing, towels, pouches, magnets, and accessories. The restaurant on the fifth floor will also serve exclusive Dragon Quest-inspired meals accompanied by original themed placemats while supplies last.

Note: The main ride includes moving seats, immersive visuals, wind effects, and fast-paced battle sequences. The Mirror of Truth and 40th Anniversary Town use face tracking and real-time image analysis. Participation is optional.

Last admission is set at 7:59 p.m.

The FAMiRES collaboration restaurant operates separately from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Last orders are scheduled for 9 p.m. for meals and desserts and 9:30 p.m. for drinks.

Tickets 2026

Tickets are date-specific and should be purchased in advance. Admission includes one Dragon Quest VR RIDE experience, access to the exhibition areas, and entry to the official merchandise shop.

Weekend and holiday pricing also applies from August 8 through August 18, 2026. One child under the age of three may enter free with a paying adult, although children in this age group cannot participate in the VR RIDE.

The optional bonus set includes three legendary-sword acrylic pins presented in a display box. The set has a listed standalone value of ¥6,000 and is available only while stocks last.
