Stroll through one of Tokyo’s most famous gardens by moonlight.
What to expect
For one week only, Hamarikyu Gardens will extend its opening hours so visitors can take in the full moon via illuminated paths. Throughout the week, the garden will also play host to special ceremonies and performances, and visitors can experience guided tours and purchase limited-edition matcha, sake, and paper lanterns.
Schedule
- The moon viewing offering ceremony will only be held from 6 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on October 31, the first night of the event.
- Traditional theater and instrumental performances such as Noh, kagura, shamisen, and koto will take place at various times throughout the week. Check the official website for details. The performances will take place on an outdoor stage with a standing area (no seats available).
- A one-hour guided tour in English will take place on November 1 at 6:30 p.m. The Japanese tour will happen on November 3 at 5:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
- Throughout the event, Nakajima tea house will have a special limited menu and there will also be an outdoor seated dining area set up inside the park selling light meals, drinks, and souvenirs.
How to get there
Hamarikyu Gardens is a 15-minute walk from Shiodome Station on the Oedo Line or a 20-minute walk from Shimbashi Station on the Ginza Line. It’s also a roughly 20-minute walk from Takeshiba or Hamamatsuchō stations.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
