While most visitors come during the day for hydrangeas or autumn leaves, this October, Hasedera Temple opens its gates after dark.
What to expect
Illuminated gardens, contemporary art, live music, and fine dining — from October 10 to 13, Kamakura’s Hasedera Temple opens to guests after the sun goes down.
Explore the temple grounds at a leisurely pace, take in the floral installation by garden designer Kazuyuki Ishihara, and enjoy concerts inside the historic Kannon Hall. Performers across the four nights range from guitar–violin duo Miura Takuya × NAOTO to the international koto trio Koto-Hime.
The evening ends with a buffet featuring local ingredients and free-flow drinks.
This is a rather exclusive event — the number of attendees is capped at 60 per night.
Schedule
Each evening starts with entry at 5:30 p.m., followed by a live concert in the Kannon Hall from 6 p.m.. Dinner begins around 7 p.m., with a buffet and free drinks served in the temple grounds.
