Hatsune Miku, the world’s most popular virtual singer, returns to Tokyo with a large-scale projection mapping display on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
What happens?
The projection mapping features Hatsune Miku performing the hit track “M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♡ SHOT!”, which has over 40 million views on YouTube.
A giant virtual Miku dances across the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building’s walls as light beams synchronize with her signature vocals. Mid-song, Miku dramatically dives from the building’s projection into smartphone screens.
This is one of Tokyo’s largest projection mapping installations.

Hatsune Miku Lights Tokyo runs on weekends and public holidays only — it is not part of the weekday line-up.
- Until August 31: 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
- From September 1: 6:30 p.m.
Screening times shift with the seasons, and the wider line-up is revised every few weeks. Check the official timetable before making a special trip, and note that heavy rain or a storm warning cancels the whole evening at short notice.
