See Kamakura’s seasonal star up close.
What happens?
Every June, Hasedera Temple in Kamakura draws visitors to its hillside Hydrangea Path. It’s home to over 2,500 hydrangeas in more than 40 varieties. The trail winds up through the temple grounds, lined with color-shifting blooms in blue, purple, and pink. The Hydrangea Path includes 80 steps to the entrance and around 130 more within, so be prepared for an uphill walk.
Schedule 2025
The Hydrangea Path opens when the flowers reach 50% bloom — typically early to late June. For 2025, the precise viewing window will be announced in late May, depending on blooming conditions. Timed entry slots begin at 9 a.m. and run every 20 minutes.

Tickets 2025
Temple admission (required for all visitors) is ¥400 for adults.
The Hydrangea Path ticket costs ¥500 per person (elementary school students and above) extra. You can book in advance online, which is recommended due to limited availability, or purchase a same-day ticket at the temple if slots remain.
Note that even with an online reservation, you’ll still need to pay the general admission fee separately at the temple entrance. Each ticket allows entry during a designated 60-minute time slot.
