Isao Takahata was a Japanese animator born in 1935 and was one of the leading figures as Japanese animation spread across the world. He spent his career working with names like Toei Animation and Studio Ghibli, and his unique style and charm still resonate with viewers today.

This exhibition will explore his vision and style, with unique pieces of art on display. You’ll see his work on Studio Ghibli’s Grave of the Fireflies, a moving masterpiece adored since its release. There’ll also be explorations of Takahata’s own work, such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps. These exhibits will discuss Takahata’s influences, style, and how he has inspired artists up to the modern day.

Prices at the Takahata Isao Exhibition change based on whether you buy them before or after the exhibition starts. You can purchase from the official site.

Tickets bought before the start of the exhibition are ¥1,800 for adults. Meanwhile, university and high school students pay ¥1,500, and younger children ¥1,200. If buying after the exhibit opens, the prices become ¥2,000, ¥1,700, and ¥1,400 respectively.

How to get there

The event will be held at the Azabudai Hills Gallery, located within the Mori Tower in the Azabudai Hills complex. You can get there by taking the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line to Kamiyachō Station, from where it’s a 5-minute walk.
