Love Japanese horror? Add this exhibition to your Halloween plans.
What to expect
J-horror tends to burrow under the skin rather than leap out at you with gore and jump scares. First staged in Niigata and now landing at Tokyo Solamachi, this exhibition turns its attention to the craftsmanship behind exemplary J-horror films.
Every set is fair game for photos and video, and some installations invite you to get hands-on: lift a prop that looks like iron but isn’t, or play with light and shadow to insert yourself into the mise-en-scène.
There’s also a behind-the-scenes “art notebook” corner showing the work of veteran production designers.

Schedule
The exhibition runs from October 11 to November 9, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. On the last day, hours will be shortened, with the exhibition closing by 6 p.m. Note that last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
Tickets
Tickets for adults cost ¥2,400 (advance ¥2,200). Advance tickets are on sale until October 10, 11:59 p.m., and can be purchased online here.
On-the-day tickets are also available, but note that you can only use electronic payment methods.
