Ever enjoyed a crisp, dry sake with a clean finish? Chances are it was brewed in Niigata, one of Japan’s most iconic destinations for nihonshu.
What to expect
On Saturday, November 1, Kagurazaka’s Wasa Retro will host Kagurazaka Niigata Sake Calendar. Guided by in-house sake sommelier Minako, guests can sample a curated selection of Niigata sake paired with seasonal dishes.
Wasa Retro’s sister shop, Musubi, is running the Echigo Hyakumi Fair until November 3, featuring Uonuma rice, Tsumari pork, and more sake.

Tickets cost ¥6,000, which includes food and drinks. Reservations are required. Book online or call 080-9669-2200.
How to get there
From Shinjuku, take the Yamanote Line to Takadanobaba Station, then switch to the Tōzai Line. Get off at Kagurazaka Station and walk around 9 minutes to the venue, Wasa Retro.
Alternatively, take the Marunouchi Line to Yotsuya Station, then switch to the Namboku Line and get off at Iidabashi Station. From there, it’s about 7 minutes on foot to the venue.
Either route takes around 25 minutes.
