If you didn’t know Tokyo still has geisha, this is a pretty good place to start. The Kagurazaka Odori is an annual showcase of the district’s geisha, bringing together dance and music in one elegant evening.
What happens?
Kagurazaka is one of Tokyo’s best-known geisha neighborhoods, and this long-running performance offers a rare chance to see its geisha and musicians in a more accessible setting than the area’s exclusive banquet rooms.
Marking its 40th anniversary this year, the program features nihon buyō (Japanese dance), Tokiwazu, Kiyomoto, and Nagauta musical recitations, along with traditional percussion.
