Start the New Year with kakizome in Akihabara.
What to expect
Kakizome (literally first writing) is a Japanese calligraphy New Year tradition. In this event, you’ll learn the basics of kakizome and write your first calligraphy of the year using traditional brushes and ink.
Throughout the experience, you’ll explore the meaning and symbolism behind the tradition and, by the end, you’ll have your own special kakizome artwork to take home as a New Year’s keepsake.
All materials are provided, but please wear an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Beginners are welcome, and English support is available.
If you can’t make it to this event, this other calligraphy event is held each month.
