Koganei Park’s vibrant trees light up as part of the Flower and Light Movement.
What to expect
This is the autumn 2024 installation of the Flower and Light Movement initiative from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. As part of this program, parks throughout the city get a chance to celebrate the seasonal shifts with large-scale flowerbeds and accompanying illuminations. At Koganei Park, not only will visitors see fantastical installations made of leaves and flowers, but there will also be light shows that perfectly spotlight the natural wonders in the park.
This autumnal spectacle aligns perfectly with the brief and beautiful illuminations at Koganei Park’s neighbor, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (November 23 to 24). Once the illuminations there are finished, there’s still plenty to visit including an illuminated carousel.
There will also be two paid workshops: Illuminated Artwork Creation Workshop, which teaches visitors how to create their own illuminated work with fallen leaves from within the park; and the Mini Nebuta Lampshade Creation Workshop which will walk participants through creating lamps inspired by nebuta, the illuminated floats most often seen at festivals during the transition from summer to fall.
Schedule 2024
The illuminations are for a limited time, running just over a week: Saturday, November 23 to Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets
Entry is free to the park but Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum will cost ¥400.
