Kōnosu City in Saitama has nearly 400 years of experience in the doll-making industry. Every year, a gigantic pyramid is erected to celebrate Hinamatsuri, a Japanese holiday otherwise known as Dolls’, or Girls’, Day.
What happens?
There will be several pyramids of Hina dolls set up around Kōnosu, but the biggest is held at the main venue in Elumi Kounosu Shopping Mall on the 1F. It stands at 7 meters high with 31 steps and contains about 1,800 dolls — it is lauded as the tallest Hinamatsuri pyramid in Japan.
How to get there
The shopping mall is a 10-minute walk from Kōnosu Station, which is on the Shonan-Shinjuku Line. It can be reached directly from Shinjuku Station in around an hour.
There will also be a free shuttle bus service from the shopping mall that takes you around to other areas in the city with Hinamatsuri exhibitions.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
