Winter cruises can sometimes be a little too chilly for comfort. However, in Nagatoro — one of the most scenic spots in Saitama — a kotatsu boat will keep you warm.
What to expect
This 20-minute Nagatoro cruise takes you through the rock formations of the Arakawa River, giving you a view of the gorgeous landscape. Since it’s winter, the boat also has a kotatsu (Japanese heated table) set up in the middle to keep warm. And not the electric version you may be used to either, but a charcoal heater to keep you toasty.
Tickets
Tickets are ¥1,100 for adults and ¥700 for children under 3. No need to book in advance.
How to get there
The boat leaves from Iwadatami Dock, which is a 3-minute walk from Nagatoro Station on the Chichibu Main Line. You can switch onto the Chichibu Main Line at Kumagaya Station, which you can reach on the JR Takasaki or Shonan-Shinjuku lines.
