Early sunsets got you feeling down? Head to Odaiba for a series of very whimsical light installations.
What to expect
Light Walk Odaiba is an illumination trail that stretches across the two-kilometer path of Odaiba’s Yume-no-Ōhashi Bridge in Symbol Promenade Park.
While many illuminations go for seasonal themes — think snowflakes and cute woodland creatures — Light Walk Odaiba leans into fantasy. There are otherworldly, glowing mushrooms, flowers with faces, and patterned light domes you can step into. There is also one designated photo spot, featuring two plush chairs against a radiant background of yet more LEDs.
The centerpiece, however, is the Seagull Clock. This massive light installation comprises three glowing arches with moving images inspired by nature, including Tokyo’s black-headed gull, and a clock at the very top. It’s not static — watch it for a while, and you’ll be treated to a sometimes eerie, sometimes magical non-linear narrative.
Also, if you ring the bell, whether by yourself or with someone special, the LEDs will all turn pink. Try it out for yourself.
Pro tip: Our recommended route is to start on the Ariake side and end at the Seagull Clock — it’s the grandest installation. Tokyo Teleport Station (Rinkai Line) is then about a 5-minute walk away.
Food and drink
In the food truck area (located closer to the Ariake side), you’ll find, among other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, vendors offering hot lemonade and mulled wine (¥700 and up). There’s also an event-exclusive white wine variety of the latter available, complete with an entire stick of cinnamon, apple slices, and a couple of blueberries.
Grab a hot dog featuring Fussa sausages and Tokyo veg, a Finnish-style salmon soup with domestic salmon and a welcome kick of black pepper, or a baked cheesy rice (¥500 and up).
If none of those sound good, don’t worry, because there are a number of other options.
Continuing the circusy theme, clowns float around this zone, engaging with visitors.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
