Get into the spirit of Setsubun with an origami workshop. What to expect Setsubun is a Japanese holiday that marks the start of spring. On this day, it is traditional to throw roasted soybeans (mamemaki) to dispel evil demons and eat ehōmaki sushi rolls. To celebrate this occasion, join an international meetup, make friends, and create your very own oni (demon) and otafuku (symbol of good fortune) with origami. Japanese university student staff will teach you how to make origami and all the Japanese vocabulary to go with it. All tools and materials are provided. English support is available. Schedule Learn about Setsubun and what you will be making Follow instructions and fold the paper into shape Finish the last touches and take a photo Tea break and questionnaire There will be two workshop times -- one from 2 p.m. and one from 4 p.m. -- so choose the time most convenient for you. You can join alone or with friends. Tickets To attend, you'll need to first register for the WeLearn Community (for free, no paid subscription required), and then just turn up to WeLearn Community 80’s Café. The workshop costs per session. You can pay on the day in cash or by PayPay. If you're already registered to the WeLearn Community, just turn up to the café on the day.
