See the beauty of traditional Japanese dance at this massive Bon Odori festival in Jiyugaoka. What happens? Across three evenings, see several talented Bon Odori dancers move to traditional and contemporary Japanese songs. If you want to join in the dance, you can learn some of the key steps via the practice videos on the official website. Everyone is encouraged to join in -- many people just wing it and that's part of the fun! To cool down after dancing, get some kakigori (shaved ice) and other refreshments from the surrounding stalls. Despite having a lively atmosphere, you can still relax, stand around, and watch the festivities. Although there are celebrations each day, the main event is the dance contest, which will happen on Sunday, July 20 in 2025. How to get there This event is being held in the main public square in front of Jiyugaoka Station. You can get there by either taking the Tokyu Toyoko Line or Oimachi Line.
