What to expect

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking that you’d like to learn mahjong one day, now is your chance. Despite what most people think, picking up the basics of the game is surprisingly straightforward, particularly when you’ve got a resident mahjong expert at your disposal.

During this event, WeLearn Cafe’s local mahjong wiz will take you through the fundamentals of the game — from reading the tiles to building a winning hand. The rules and scoring will be broken down into simple steps. You’ll jump straight into a game, learn by doing, and chat with fellow learners as you go.

You’ll understand your pons and rons in no time and maybe make some future mahjong buddies along the way.

Entry

Mahjong games will be going on at the cafe from 12 to 6 p.m., and you can duck in and out as you like. A one-drink minimum is charged from ¥200 for members and from ¥500 for non-members. The venue accepts cash, credit card, PayPay, or transit cards like Pasmo, Suica, or ICOCA.

If you’re not a WeLearn subscriber or free trial member, be sure to register via this link so organizers have an idea of head count.
