This Summer, Moonrise presents a series of shows combining Japanese music, spirituality, and cuisine in unique spaces in the heart of Asakusa. Three events in particular will offer a chance to experience this one-of-a-kind fusion of traditional culture and world-class musicianship up close.
What to expect
The first shows take place at Asakusa Shrine on June 17 and 25 and centers on performance and gastronomy. The event will showcase forms as diverse as Japanese Buddhist chants, Shinto shrine maiden dances, and music combining contemporary jazz and traditional Japanese music.
Takasaki no Okan, a specialty saké restaurant based in Meguro, will also be serving food and drinks on the night.
On July 3, Moonrise will present the Grand Stage Performance at Asakusa Public Hall, a venue known for hosting Kabuki theater and dance performances. The last in a special series of eight concerts, the show will feature another diverse lineup, which includes shōmyō Buddhist chanting, min’yō Japanese folk music, and string quartet performances.
