Morning Sumo Stable Tour

¥18,000 (advance sales)

One of the best things to do in Japan is watch sumo. See what it takes for professional wrestlers to prepare for a world-famous sumo tournament by visiting their beya (training stable).

What to expect

This one-of-a-kind tour visits Tatsunami Sumo Stable, known for its Makuuchi (the top division in sumo) wrestlers. Hōshōryū Tomokatsu, recently appointed the sport’s top rank (Yokozuna) in January 2025, is a member of the stable.

When you visit, you’ll be treated to intense bouts between the wrestlers as they clash in the dohyō ring. This is a rare chance to get this close to the action. After their training, you can take photos with the wrestlers and get an insight into where they live and train with a Q&A session, as well as a look at sumo-sized personal items — a regular towel just won’t cut it. Read more about the experience.

Note that you’ll need to be respectful during the training — please don’t talk or even whisper. However, during the practice, you can listen to explanations and commentary from a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter.
