Tune into anime songs performed live by a real band in a Shibuya basement — sing the choruses, then watch or join wotagei, the synchronized glow-stick dance unique to Japanese idol and fandom culture. No experience needed.
What to expect
Head down to a basement live house in the middle of Shibuya Center-Gai to hear your favorite anime songs played live by a real band.
The house band, ONExONE, plays the anthems everyone knows, including Gurenge, Blue Bird, Butter-Fly, SPECIALZ, and A Cruel Angel’s Thesis, and the room sings the choruses back. Kakkun is on drums (he has played to crowds of 80,000), while Jin Shibuya plays guitar and bass at the same time, live rather than through loops. Aoi Higashi, whose songs appear on Apple Music editorial playlists, is on vocals, joined by singer-songwriter Yuki Tanaka.
The other highlight is wotagei, the synchronized light-stick performance style associated with Japanese idol and anime fandom. Up to 20 guests per show can sign up at the venue on the night to take part. They are given glow sticks and taught a simple routine at the start of the first stage, with no experience or Japanese needed, then get photos with the performers during the break and join the band on stage for the finale. Everyone else can enjoy the wall of light from the floor.
On October 6 and 27, the night is also a preliminary round of Road to Comic Con. Singers, idols, cosplayers, and performers compete, and the audience votes to decide who goes through to the final. One performer is chosen for Comic Con.
It is a standing venue, designed to be English-friendly and welcoming to solo visitors. Since the series began in August, guests have come from around 20 countries.
October 6 is a filmed event: the glow stick dance experience is free for the first 20 guests (no on-stage finale that night).
Schedule for October 2026
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the first stage starting at 7 p.m. and the second at 8:15 p.m. The show ends at 9 p.m. Note that the two stages are the two halves of one show, not a repeat: the set changes between them, though a few songs may be played in both. The same applies on Road to Comic Con nights.
