This LGBTQ+ fundraiser takes place in Shibuya on March 1.
What to expect
“Wi deh yah” translates from Jamaican Patois to “We are here”. It can also mean “we are out here enjoying ourselves”. Running from 1 to 7 p.m. at Contrast, this event brings together art, live performances, music, and food for an afternoon party with a purpose.
Organized by a collective of LGBTQIA+ Jamaicans in the diaspora and their allies in Japan, the event aims to raise funds and awareness following Hurricane Melissa, which devastated Jamaica in October 2025. The hurricane left 54 people dead, 109 injured, and more than 279,000 people homeless, affecting an estimated half of the country’s population.
Entry is free; a donation of ¥1,000 is suggested. All proceeds will go toward three charities: Equality for All Jamaica, United Way Jamaica, and Connek Ja, supporting marginalized communities impacted by the disaster.
How to get there
The venue, Contrast, is located a 3-minute walk from Yoyogi Park Station, or about a 20-minute walk from Shibuya Station. Alternatively, take the #51 bus from Shibuya Station headed for Shinjuku Station West and get off after 4 stops (7 minutes), then walk another 5 minutes to the venue.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
