The Yokohama Port Opening Festival is Yokohama’s largest public event of the year and celebrates when Yokohama Port first opened.
What happens?
There is a variety of community events taking place across the days — all with the aim of further promoting Yokohama and its culture. As well as being able to board ships on the port, you can also watch live performances, eat some good food, and see fireworks.

Saturday
- 10:00–18:00: Hands-on keychain workshop using recycled marine plastic (Rinko Park South Entrance Plaza).
- 11:00–14:00: Meet and interact with ponies whilst learning about the history of Yokohama (Rinko Park South Entrance Plaza).
- 11:00: Hop aboard the Rosa Alba, a sightseeing cruise that departs from the Ocean Pukari Pier at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. (¥500, requires advance sign-up).
- 13:00–16:00: Tour the escort ship Inazuma — a real Maritime Self-Defense Force vessel docked at Yokohama Hammerhead Pier No. 9. Entry may close early if it gets crowded.
- 13:00: Catch the fountain show — a water, music, and light display designed to stun. Shows take place at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7:50 p.m.
- 14:00–20:00: Bon Odori taking place at Pacifico Yokohama Plaza Square.
Sunday

- 15:00: Catch the fountain show — a water, music, and light display designed to stun. Shows take place at 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7:50 p.m. Each lasts around 10 minutes.
- 18:30: The festival wraps up with a large choral performance by Yokohama residents.
- 19:30: An impressive display with around 3000 fireworks and lasers takes place.
On Monday, there will be traffic regulations in place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and some areas will be cornered off for paying ticket members only.
Tickets: Can I watch the fireworks for free?
It is free to attend this festival and you can see the fireworks from many points in the Minato Mirai and Sakuragicho areas without buying tickets. However, Hammerhead No. 9 Quay, Rinko Park, and a terrace in front of the National Great Hall are reserved for ticket holders only.
Note that they’ve kept very hush-hush about the fireworks this year, so details are subject to change at the last minute.
How to get there
This festival is taking place at Rinko Park and the general Minato Mirai area. The best way to get here is to take the Minato Mirai Line to Minato Mirai Station and walk up to 5 minutes.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
