Odawara is a city on the Ashigara Plains facing Sagami Bay in the western portion of Kanagawa Prefecture. From Shinagawa in Tokyo, it takes about 1 hour to get there by express train on the Tokaidō Line. Odawara Station is also a stop on the Tokaidō Shinkansen, so if your time is worth a lot of money you can zip back forth into Tokyo in less than 30 minutes.
The biggest attraction and one of the most prominent landmarks in the city is Odawara Castle — a reinforced concrete reproduction of the feudal era castle which stood on the same spot until 1872.
Odawara is also a jumping off point for Onsen in the Hakone area and other sightseeing destinations in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
