A temple in the Rinzai sect of Buddhism, Kenchoji is the oldest temple in Kamakura.
Highlights include the stunning Sanmon gate, the national treasure temple bell, the Jizo Bodhisattva statue in the Buttsuden and the beautiful zen garden behind the Hojo (main hall). If you continue up behind the main temple buildings, you will eventually reach the Hansobo Shrine which has two observation decks (one a little further up than the first) which offer views of Kamakura and even Fuji on a clear day.
