Walking into Togenkyo feels like stepping inside a real-life treasure box. Tucked away along Kōenji’s Etoile Street, this colorful little shop is packed floor-to-ceiling with handmade accessories, trinkets, and decorations that celebrate maximalism in the best possible way.
What’s Togenkyo?
The shop’s concept is “a world unlike anything else” (“比べる物のない世界”), and after spending just a few minutes inside, it’s easy to see why. Almost everything you see has been handmade or remade by the artists who work at the shop, with many pieces even featuring custom-made parts rather than store-bought components. Every shelf is overflowing with color, making it almost impossible to know where to look first.
There are two floors to explore, and both are absolutely packed with unique creations. You’ll find necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, keychains, lighter covers, mirrors, hairbrushes, and countless other accessories, all decorated with colorful beads, charms, rhinestones, and playful trinkets. The aesthetic leans heavily into Heisei-era nostalgia, embracing the bold colours that defined so much of 2000s Japanese fashion.
One of the best parts is that no two visits are exactly the same. Since nearly everything is handmade, each piece feels unique, making it easy to find something that nobody else will have. Among the shop’s most popular creations are quirky designs inspired by everything from seals to gyoza dumplings, giving the collection an unmistakably playful personality.
