Tsukiji Honganji is a Buddhist temple located near Tsukiji Market, with a decidedly un-Japanese design.
The temple is reminiscent of Buddhist temples in the Indian subcontinent, with stone and concrete replacing the timber typically seen in Japanese temples and shrines.
Visitors are welcome to wander in. In English, the temple name is often written anachronistically as ‘Hongwanji’.
