The Yokohama Museum of Art is a popular museum in the port city.
What to expect
The museum houses art from the late 19th century, reflecting the time when Yokohama opened its port, to the present day. It also hosts a variety of temporary exhibits you can’t see elsewhere.
To see what exhibitions are currently being held, check out the official website. There is also an annual exhibition schedule which includes some special exhibitions.
Note that admission fees vary depending the exhibition, but expect to pay anywhere between ¥500 to ¥3,000.
After browsing the exhibitions, you can also visit the art library, museum shop, or café. It’s the perfect, relaxing way to enjoy a day of art and culture — especially if it’s rainy out.
How to get there
If you’re coming from central Tokyo, take the Tokyu-Tōyoko Line (which becomes the Minatomirai Line). Get off at Minatomirai Station and exit through Exit 3. The museum is a 3-minute walk.
Should you be taking the Keihin-Tōhoku/Negishi Line or the Yokohama Subway Blue Line to Sakuragicho Station, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the museum via the moving walkway.
