What’s Y!Y! Hands?

At the Shinjuku branch, you have the choice to customize a phone case, fluffy face plushie keychain, pens, combs, or all four if you feel like it. With hundreds of beads to choose from, you can create accessories for any aesthetic including something more girly, more glam, or more punk.

Each experience has a different cost. For the customized phone experience we tried, there’s a base fee of ¥2,200 for 10g of beads. You can pick up to 80g worth of beads which cost ¥5,980. Keep in mind that it’s an additional ¥100 for a clear case or ¥500 for a color one.

The workshop technically takes about an hour but we took around 30 minutes just picking the beads and coming up with the design — we’re perfectionists. Once you have selected your beads, put on some fluffy slippers (we suggest the strawberry ones) and start gluing your creation.

After you have done this, you can make a customized label for your case, a nice touch that gives it that real souvenir feel.

Alternatively, for the plushie keychain workshop you can make either a cat, bear, or rabbit, and then sew the face using fabric of your choice. Then, you go on to pick the beads and buttons to bring your plushie’s face to life. The base price for this experience is ¥2,900.

Other things to know

You should make a reservation in advance. As noted above, it takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours so leave ample time.

How to get there

It roughly takes just under 10 minutes to walk from the South Exit of Shinjuku Station to the Showa Building (where the Y!Y! Hands is located). Once there, head up to the 4th Floor and open the door that has the sign for Y!Y! Hands and let the staff know your reservation name and time.
