This Kawagoe senbei shop serves up flavorful rice crackers, perfect for snacking on-the-go or taking home as a souvenir.

What’s Okakidokoro Terakoya Honpo?

At first glance, these fried senbei might look like meaty yakitori — but vegetarians, rest assured, they’re not. In fact, there’s even an English note on the menu clarifying that it’s senbei, not meat, which shows just how convincing the resemblance is.

During our visit, we tried the mayo-cheese senbei for ¥230. With its rich flavor and being surprisingly hearty, it was much more filling than your typical senbei. Other flavors include mentaiko, curry, and sesame — prices range between ¥200 to ¥260.

If you’re not feeling senbei — though we can’t imagine why — the store also sells ice cream and kakigori (shaved ice). Prices for these start from ¥486.

Note: only cash payment is accepted.
