Run by world-champion barista Tetsu Kasuya, PHILOCOFFEA invites you to explore the wonderful world of drip-style coffee, also known as pour-over. With demonstrations and explanations, you’ll leave with new knowledge — and a welcome caffeine boost.

What’s PHILOCOFFEA?

Perhaps you eagle-eyed readers already noticed: PHILOCOFFEA combines the words “Philosophy” and “Coffea”: (the plant from which coffee comes). Using a unique single-origin blend, PHILOCOFFEA serves everything from filtered coffee to lattes. On the menu, you’ll also find original drinks such as their “Sparkling Coffee”. Prices start at ¥1,000.

Once you’ve placed your order, one of the baristas will call you up to see how your coffee is being made. They’ll briefly explain the company’s philosophy, as well as what’s going into your drink — for example, the special caramel syrup used in the Iced Caramel Latte.

And yes, the coffee really is as good as it looks. Our Iced Caramel Latte was perfectly creamy, with strong, bold coffee. If you’d like to recreate that perfect cup at home, you can buy a bag to take with you.

Do you need reservations for PHILOCOFFEA?

No, you don’t need reservations. However, keep in mind that indoor seating is limited. It’s mostly bench-style seating in a large, exhibition-like space. It’s more suited for grabbing a quick cuppa with friends, or a takeout treat for your Omotesando explorations.
