Nestled in what looks like someone’s home, this vegan and gluten-free restaurant is a rare find in Odawara. With its concept of “preventing illness” and “providing food education”, eating at Aomugi will not only make you feel satifised but well nourished.
What’s Vegan Restaurant Aomugi?
Aomugi offers vegetable set meals at ¥1,300, featuring three dishes and a soup. Options include gluten-free radish and soy-meat fried chicken, tofu and vegetable dandan soup, and plant-based meat cutlets. There’s also an a la carte menu with dishes starting at ¥120.
Additionally, you can order a plain diet set meal for ¥1,300, which has less rice, soup, and even healthier side dishes. To align with this concept, the portions are limited to 80% of your stomach capacity. The food is also prepared in a way that encourages slower chewing.
This restaurant not only caters to vegans and vegetarians, but also elderly people, those who are ill, and families. Because of this, the restaurant can accommodate individual requests (in advance) for certain allergies and dietary restrictions.
Following your main course, satisfy any sweet cravings with a handmade gluten-free organic lemon cheesecake or apple mousse, among other things, for ¥450. Drinks such as organic coffee and non-alcoholic beverages are also available.
Before leaving, make sure to look at look at the natural foods and organic ingredients on sale. The restaurant truly offers a tranquil space to appreciate your food, as well as be mindful of the ingredients in it.
What to know before you visit Vegan Restaurant Aomugi
Do you need reservations for Vegan Restaurant Aomugi?
Since there are only a certain number of set meals available per day, it is best to make a reservation in advance. You can do so either by phoning or emailing the restaurant. It is also possible to walk in, however, those with reservations will be prioritized.
Keep in mind that part of the restaurant’s concept is to prepare and enjoy food slowly. Since there is only one chef who carefully prepares all the food, your food may take a while to make. On our visit, we waited around 40 minutes, so visit if you have time to spare.
