Visa Worldwide Japan has launched a nationwide campaign called “Take the Train! Visa Touch Discount Campaign!” to promote the use of contactless payment on public transport.
Important: The campaign is restricted to domestic cardholders.
The campaign runs from May 1-31, 2026 and covers 46 railway operators across Japan. Users can get up to 30% cashback on their train fares when touching in and out of stations with a registered Visa contactless card.
You can register on the Visa campaign page.
Note: The cashback is capped at 600 yen per Visa card for the duration of the campaign.
JCB has a cashback campaign for train fare too
If you happen to have a JCB card in Japan, they have a cashback campaign of their own, which runs until the end of June, 2026. You can get up to 50% back on train fares, capped at ¥1,000 per card. Check the T&Cs for more details.
