The hotel is a popular venue for weddings. This is mostly due to the spectacular garden that is part of the hotel. It has won awards for its excellent design and cultural value. The garden houses a pagoda, several statues moved from locations such as Kyoto and Nara, and an iconic red bridge known as the Benkei Bridge. It is worth spending upwards of an hour here, depending on the season, to take in all the sights and details.

The garden is not usually open to the public. However, for a brief period in mid-May to June, the hotel hosts firefly-viewing nights complete with mist installations that non-hotel guests can purchase tickets for. These tickets tend to sell out quickly.

There are also a number of restaurants in Chinzanso, all with prices befitting a 5-star luxury hotel.

What’s the location like?

The location is quiet and green, with the hotel perched up on a hill. Higo-Hosokawa Garden is nearby, as is Sekiguchi Basho-an, where haiku poet Matsuo Basho lived for four years.
