The Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel (what a mouthful) is a conveniently located budget hotel just a few minutes from Ueno Station. The most affordable option is a single with shared bathroom priced at around 5000 yen for people who don’t mind a little communality. This medium hotel has both Japanese (with futons and tatami mats) and Western (with beds) style rooms. They have wifi throughout the hotel, English-speaking staff, and are located on a quiet street.
People staying more than three nights qualify for a discount rate, and there is no curfew, though doors are locked after 2 a.m. – just use the intercom and they’ll let you in. There’s a Lawson convenience store right next door for super convenient 24-hour snacking ease, and their bicycle rental is quite cheap at only ¥300 per day.
The only thing that seems to be missing is an explanation for why this place is named after Izu. There is nary a beach to be seen here.
